A team of 40 climbers inspired by the late great Steve Prescott MBE have successfully climbed Mount Kilimanjaro. Congratulations to Hull FC supporter Mark Grasby, 44, who completed the RB Hull Marathon which took place on 24^th September smashing his £500 target raising a fantastic £740 for the Steve Prescott Foundation.

Mark who is an Operations Director for an education provider took part in the marathon which finished at the KCOM stadium says.’ I love sport and fitness, but hate running. I read Steve Prescott’s book and felt humbled, and felt that I needed to help others and honour Steve.’

The you-are-the-ref.com Kilimanjaro Challenge climbing party left Manchester airport on Wednesday to start their journey to Tanzania via Istanbul. The team of 44 will not only be tackling Mount Kilimanjaro but will also attempt the Guinness Book of World Records highest altitude game of football. To achieve this goal they have the support of former Premier League referee and cancer survivor Mark Halsey and his referee assistants Mehdi Najefi, Paige Klum and Stuart McKenzie.

The third St Helens Triathlon sponsored by Handepay of Haydock in association with St Helens Community Sport and O2 Business Centre, Rainford took place on Sunday 10th September. The annual event organised by the Steve Prescott Foundation (SPF) and BeUrBest attracted a record 250 entrants including 8 teams. A team of Handepay employees also completed the triathlon to contribute towards hitting their £30,000 fundraising target for The Steve Prescott Foundation.

Inspire Risk Management of Warrington have presented a project - Inspire Couch to 10k- for an Aviva Community Fund 2016 to support the GPW Recruitment St Helens 10k Run in aid of The Steve Prescott Foundation.

It was a day of celebration for Luke Bryan and his Mum Christine as representatives of the Steve Prescott Foundation and the Rugby League Benevolent Fund attended the formal opening of Luke’s new home in Haydock.

Thanks to a £80,000 donation from the Steve Prescott Foundation (SPF) through the Rugby League Benevolent Fund Luke has now moved into a specially adapted home in Haydock. The Rugby League Benevolent Fund, one of the charities supported by the SPF, helps players who have been affected by serious injury.

Luke says his new home will give him the independence he craves and a new lease of life.  The former rugby league player was paralysed from the neck down following a devastating injury in 1996 while playing for Haydock under 18s.

2016 is a milestone year for the Steve Prescott Foundation (SPF) as we have reached a million pounds of donations to our nominated charities the Rugby League Benevolent Fund, The Christie and the SPF Special Causes Fund.

The latest epic challenge inspired by Steve Prescott MBE is the Everest Base Camp Challenge 2016 sponsored by the Manchester based Spectrum Group, a leading supplier of support services in the industrial sector. The challenge follows on from the fantastic success of the Spectrum Kilimanjaro Challenge of 2015 which raised over £150,000 for the SPF and saw the team ratified by the Guinness Book of World Records as taking part in the world’s highest altitude game of rugby league.

The Steve Prescott Foundation (SPF) sends sincere thanks to Hotel Football, Manchester, for hosting a Q & A event in the Old Trafford Supporters Club bar facility with all proceeds going to the SPF. Guests included RL stars and SPF ambassadors Andy Gregory, (Widnes, Wigan, Warrington and Salford) and Adrian Morley (Leeds Rhinos, Sydney Roosters, Warrington Wolves and Salford Red Devils).  Paul Wood (Warrington Wolves) and Phil McKenzie (ex Widnes) also kindly gave their time and predictions ahead of the game. Compere for the event was Radio City presenter Connor Phillips.

Linzi Prescott sets off on the Spectrum Everest Base Camp Challenge this week and has the support of Dr Mark Saunders consultant clinical oncologist at The Christie. The challenge involves an eleven day trek to the Nepal Everest Base Camp then onwards to "Kala Pattar" to reach a finishing height of 5645 meters above sea level.

23 Handepay staff walked the 18 miles from their office to Old Trafford on Saturday to raise £5,500 – the equivalent of more than £300 per mile – before enjoying a well-deserved seat to watch Wigan Warriors take the Super League title, with hospitality provided by Hotel Football.

Registration is now open for the GPW Recruitment St Helens 10k run 2017 which takes place on Sunday 5^th March. The event is open for runners age 16 and over.

The 7^th annual St Helens 10k starts and finishes at Langtree Park with runners taking on the testing North Road on the way.

The Steve Prescott Foundation is really delighted to announce that the Horizon Defibrillator Award will be presented to one local community group at this year’s SolarKing Commercial Pride of St Helens Awards on Friday 11^th November.

Local community groups are invited to apply for a defibrillator for their group and the winner will be presented with the award by Lizzie Jones. Lizzie is the wife of former Keighley Cougars and Wales International half back Danny Jones who tragically collapsed and died in May 2015 as a result of an undiagnosed heart condition.
