We set off from St Helens and our first destination of the year is Achill Island, County Mayo on the west coast of Ireland. Home to spectacular mountains over 2200ft, one of the highest sea cliffs in Europe and beautiful beaches, it is well worth a visit.

Taking a north-westerly route we have reached Reykjvik, Capital city of Iceland. It's home to the National and Saga museums, tracing Iceland’s Viking history.

Due west and we arrive at Nuuk, the relatively small Capital City of Greenland. With a population of approximately 18,000, it will be one of the smallest capitals we will visit on our travels.

This week we reach the small Inuit settlement of Nain, in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Fishing is the main industry in Nain. Traditional hunting and trapping activities continue through the winter months after the fishing season has ended.

We head down the St Lawrence River for a bit of sight seeing calling at: Québec City, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Niagara Falls and London (not that London!).

10 10/03/2024 801.04 6716.95 This week we land in Sacramento, Capital City of California. The area had been inhabited by the indigenous peoples of California for thousands of years prior to the arrival of Spanish settlers in 1808.
11 17/03/2024 345.17 7062.12 Converted to a federal prison in 1934, Alcatraz Island had become one of the most notorious prisons in American history. The prison closed in 1963, and the island is now a major tourist attraction.
