The fund raising flagship event of the SPF is the annual St Helens 10k Run which was the idea of Steve Prescott in 2010 to improve the health and fitness of everyone. The event now has 2000 participants of all abilities including many novice runners.
In line with the World Health Organisation (WHO) strategy on diet, physical activity and health we would like to increase the number of young people participating in this event.
The project is to inspire young people to improve their health and fitness by offering a 10 week training course based in Warrington in preparation for the St Helens 10k run on Sunday 5th March 2017 at Langtree Park Stadium. The fitness programme is organised by professional coaches and health advisers.
100 free places will be offered to Youth Clubs and sixth form colleges with inclusion for all abilities. Ten weekly one hour training sessions with Warrington Sports and Leisure will offer fitness training, dietary advice and motivation to all registrants.
