SAINTS have announced their match against Hull FC will be a fitting tribute to the late Steve Prescott MBE.
In conjunction with their opponents and the Steve Prescott Foundation, the fixture at Langtree Park on Friday February 21, will herald the inaugural Steve Prescott Cup.
This will be an annual event played between both of Steve’s former clubs with the team having the highest aggregate score in the two regular Super League matches winning the trophy.
The home opener will also feature tributes to Steve and a past player guard of honour for his sons Taylor and Koby.
The lads will also be mascots for the game and brother Neil will take the matchball onto the Langtree Park pitch.
Both teams will also be wearing special commemorative warm up sweatshirts supplied by ISC.
The Steve Prescott Foundation will hold a bucket collection too with the Club donating £5 from each PRESCOTT 1 shirt printing to the charity in the run up to the match.
General Manager of the Steve Prescott Foundation, Martin Blondel, said: “We would like to thank both clubs for dedicating the first prestigious home game of the season to Steve's memory.
“It will be fantastic to see Saints fans wearing the Prescott 1 and raising funds for the SPF.
“It is quite clear that the intentions of St.Helens R.F.C. and Hull FC will see Steve's legacy will continue forever and there is no more fitting tribute than the Steve Prescott Cup"
St Helens Council are also planning a permanent reminder by renaming the bridge that links up Langtree Park with the Town Centre.
An unveiling ceremony before the game will start from 17.30 with more details will be announced shortly.
