Reason to “Kill the Hill”:I became good friends with Steve while we were playing together at Hull FC. The journey Steve went through from his diagnosis to the day he passed was incredible and a real inspiration to not only me but everybody that knew him.
His determination to make a difference through his charity work although being seriously ill proved that if you put your mind to it, anything can be achieved.
Steve was such an inspiration to me that I am starting up my own charity 'the Isaac Carvell Foundation' to provide technology to schools for the sensory impaired and climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is a way of me thanking and remembering Steve for all he has done. I'll probably be cursing him every day while on the mountain and I've no doubt he'll be laughing down at me.
What are you most looking forward to:I'm looking forward to the moment we reach the peak and feel that massive sense of achievement. The camaraderie within the group is something I enjoy and taking away the experience that no doubt will last a lifetime is something I'm also looking forward to.
What are you least looking forward to:I've listened to the stories of people that have climbed the mountain before and the shear size of the task in front of us is nerve racking. Altitude sickness and lack of sleep are something that I'm worried about but as Precky said "a challenge isn't a challenge unless it's challenging"
