The challenge to climb Mount Kilimanjaro and play the world’s highest game of rugby will start next month to raise funds and awareness of the Steve Prescott Foundation (SPF). The group of 40 climbers includes current Salford Red Devils International legend Adrian Morley and former players Lee Briers, Barrie McDermott, Garreth Carvell, Neil Harmon, Chico Jackson, Alan Hunte and Mike Wainwright. Also taking part are Sky Sports Angela Powers, BBC’s Beccy Meehan, Spectrum Group Managing Director Neil Farrow and Harry Potter actor Matt Lewis. The climb will receive extensive media coverage including features on BBC TV and Sky.

The rugby match will be refereed by International Rugby Football League (RFL) referee Robert Hicks. Robert has very kindly stepped in at short notice to replace Steve Ganson who has had to withdraw due to a change in his role within the RFL structure. The SPF would like to thank the RFL for facilitating a replacement for Steve Ganson at such short notice. It’s really great to welcome Robert Hicks to the climbing party and the SPF is very thankful to Robert and his family for agreeing to Robert stepping forward to join in this unique challenge.

The Guinness Book of Records attempt can only take place with an RFL International referee officiating. Robert, a solicitor from Oldham is a full time official and Legal and Compliance officer for the RFL.
