A team of 14 intrepid adventurers from the Steve Prescott Foundation (SPF) will tomorrow (Monday) fly out from Manchester Airport to take on one of the Seven Wonders of the World — the Great Wall of China.
Led by SPF Chairman Adrian Cunliffe, SPF Ambassador Kyle Amor, and Main Sponsor Matt McGuire from Global Survey Equipment, the team will experience the Great Wall in true SPF style. This will not be a typical tourist trek — participants will immerse themselves in Chinese culture, hiking through forests and scaling the iconic steps of the ancient Wall.
Adrian Cunliffe said:
We have a diverse group of supporters who are mainly strangers but will come together and unite as one to raise vital funds for the SPF and our beneficiaries — The Christie and the Rugby League Benevolent Fund. We are all inspired by the great man, and we will come back as friends for life. This is what an SPF challenge does — and this is what Steve wanted.
Main Sponsor Matt McGuire has used this challenge as a catalyst to transform his health and wellbeing, losing an incredible 10 stone in preparation for the expedition.
I took part in and sponsored the SPF Golf Weekend in Portugal last year and was inspired by how the SPF and Steve’s story brought everyone together as a community. When I heard about the Great Wall of China challenge, I knew it was the perfect motivation to complete my fitness journey. I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me along the way — I can’t wait to start this bucket-list adventure.
