The Steve Prescott Foundation is delighted to announce another incredible bucket-list adventure for 2027, as supporters are invited to take on the spectacular SPF Machu Picchu Trek, taking place from 22nd to 30th July 2027.
The challenge will combine two of the most breath taking trekking routes in the Peruvian Andes – the Salkantay Mountains and the legendary Inca Trail – culminating with an unforgettable arrival at one of the world’s most iconic landmarks, Machu Picchu.
Over six days and five nights, the SPF team will trek approximately 43.5 miles, travelling through remote mountain landscapes, glacial lakes, ancient archaeological sites and some of the most spectacular scenery in South America.
This is no ordinary tourist trek.
The expedition begins in the magnificent Salkantay Mountains, where participants will trek past the stunning Humantay Lake before climbing to the expedition’s highest point at Inca Chiriasca Pass – 5,100 metres above sea level.
The team will then link up with the historic Inca Trail, tackling famous sections including Dead Woman’s Pass, before visiting remarkable Inca sites including Paucar Cancha, Sayacmarca, Phuyupatamarca and Wiñay Wayna.
After five demanding days in the Andes, the final morning will provide what promises to be one of the great moments of the entire expedition.
The team will trek to Intipunku – the Sun Gate – for their first spectacular glimpse of Machu Picchu, before walking into the ancient 15th-century Inca citadel for a guided tour.
The challenge forms part of another exciting year for the Steve Prescott Foundation as it continues the astonishing legacy of Steve Prescott MBE.
Participants will be asked to raise £5,000, with vital funds supporting the Foundation and its beneficiaries, The Christie and the Seriously Injured Players Fund (Rugby League Cares).
A £300 non-refundable deposit will secure a place, followed by staged fundraising targets:
* A further £700 by 1st December 2026
* £3,000 raised in total by 1st April 2027
* The full £5,000 by 1st June 2027
The package includes all flights from the UK, transfers, trek permits, professional guides, camping accommodation, meals throughout the trek, porters and pack animals, entrance to Machu Picchu and the spectacular Vistadome train journey following the expedition.
Participants will also receive an SPF T-shirt and hoody, together with training and logistical support in preparation for the challenge.

“Combining the Salkantay Mountains with the Inca Trail will give our team a genuine expedition and the opportunity to experience remote areas of the Andes, incredible mountain passes and ancient Inca sites before eventually arriving at Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate.
“Our challenges have always been about ordinary people pushing themselves beyond what they thought was possible while raising vital funds and continuing Steve’s incredible legacy.
“It will be physically demanding, emotional and undoubtedly tough at times, but that is what makes reaching the final destination together so special.
“This really will be an experience of a lifetime.”
Participants will spend time in Cusco before the trek to begin acclimatising to the altitude, while medically qualified support will be available throughout the expedition.
The Foundation is now inviting old and new SPF supporters to secure their places and become part of what promises to be another extraordinary chapter in the charity’s fundraising history.
