The Steve Prescott Foundation (SPF) is delighted to announce the return of one of its most memorable international challenges – the SPF Great Wall of China Trek 2027, taking place from 4th October to 13th October 2027.
Following on from a hugely successful bucket-list trek in 2025, the SPF is once again staging a once-in-a-lifetime adventure to the Great Wall of China, taking the group away from the traditional tourist trail to experience remote sections of the Wall, breath taking scenery and authentic Chinese culture.
The challenge forms part of a very special year for the charity as it celebrates 20 years of The Steve Prescott Foundation, continuing the extraordinary legacy of the great man, Steve Prescott MBE.
Funds raised through the trek will support the Foundation’s beneficiaries, The Christie and the Seriously Injured Players Fund.
An Adventure Beyond the Tourist Trail
The nine-day expedition combines challenging trekking with local food, traditional accommodation, Chinese culture and time to explore the incredible city of Beijing.
After arriving in Beijing, the team will head away from the main tourist routes to tackle some of the most spectacular sections of the Great Wall.
The trekking begins at Taipingzhai and Huangyaguan before moving into the rugged and largely unrestored West Gubeikou section.
From there, the group will trek from Gubeikou to Jinshanling West, continue across the magnificent Jinshanling West to East route and finish their Great Wall challenge among the spectacular Peak Towers at Simatai.
Across five consecutive trekking days, participants will cover approximately 38 kilometres (24 miles) and around 23 hours of trekking.
Some days may appear relatively short in distance, but the steep ascents and descents, thousands of steps, rugged terrain and unrestored sections of the Wall will provide a significant physical challenge.
Along the way, participants will stay in traditional local farmer guesthouses, enjoy locally prepared food and even take part in a traditional dumpling-making experience.
Experience Beijing
After completing the trekking challenge, the team will return to Beijing to enjoy another side of this extraordinary country.
The itinerary includes the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square, together with free time to experience attractions such as the Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace and traditional Hutongs.
It is a challenge designed to provide far more than simply walking the Great Wall – it is an opportunity to experience the history, people, food and culture of China.

Personal travel insurance is not included and participants will be responsible for arranging their own appropriate cover.
Fundraising
Places can be secured with a £200 deposit.
Each participant will then commit to the following fundraising milestones:
£1,000 raised by 1st April 2027
£2,000 raised by 1st July 2027
£3,500 total amount raised by 1st September 2027
Every participant will therefore play their part in raising vital funds for The Christie and the Seriously Injured Players Fund, while taking on one of the world’s great bucket-list adventures.
The SPF hopes the 2027 team will follow in the footsteps of previous Foundation trekkers who have pushed themselves physically and mentally while creating friendships and memories that last a lifetime.
