The SPF was contacted earlier this year by Pete Gatenby with a kind offer to fund raise for the charity by taking part in the Lisbon Rock n Roll Marathon on Sunday 2nd October 2016. Congratulations to lads and thank you for your fantastic support.

La Cala Golf Club, Mijas, Costa del Sol, Spain. 5th to 8th November 2021

The Steve Prescott Foundation (SPF) are elated to announce that Newell’s Projects Ltd will be the headline sponsor of Newell’s Golf Weekend 2021 in association with The Golf Guide, raising vital funds for SPF.

Newell’s Projects Ltd Managing Director David is a great supporter of the SPF and fits the SPF mantra of “What the mind believes, the body achieves” perfectly. David was a member of the SPF Team that last year took on Challenge Wembley, a gruelling 900 miles cycle, a 26 mile Dragonboat row down The Thames and a Half Marathon run into Wembley delivering the Coral Challenge Cup match ball in time for kick off for the final. David lost an incredible 4 stone to ensure he was in peak condition for the challenge.

David said, “I am so pleased to be able to support the SPF once again. It's going to be a phenomenal weekend of golf, beers and fun. Last year was a life changing experience for me and I know that’s what the SPF excel at along with raising vital funds for The Christie and the Rugby League Benevolent Fund.”

This event is the brainchild of SPF Ambassador and Rugby League Legend Lee Briers.

Lee says, “It has always been my dream to stage a golf weekend for the SPF that will become an annual event. I approached the best in the business, Paul Lambert from The Golf Guide who is a passionate Rugby League supporter and with his contacts we proposed the weekend to be staged at La Cala Golf Course in Mijas which is now in the final two of the best golf hospitality venue in the world. The take up from fellow Rugby League Legends and participants has blown me away. We are very close to putting up the house full signs. The great man Steve Prescott would have absolutely loved this. I am so pleased his son Taylor will be joining us and he'll probably be the favourite to win!  As with any event of this nature we cannot do this without our sponsors. On behalf of the SPF we cannot thank Newell’s Projects Ltd enough for their amazing support.''

Paul Lambert from The Golf Guide said “La Cala situated in Mijas, is one of the best golf resorts in the world, along with its sister hotel Sunset Beach.  They will offer all our golfers an experience they will never forget. It gives me great pride to be hosting so many Rugby League Legends and golfers. I would like to thank the SPF for the opportunity as I have always supported the great work of Steve and the Foundation. We have a few places still available, if you are interested in joining us you best be quick.”

Rugby League Legends signed up so far include Lee Briers, Adrian Morley, Mick Cassidy, Danny Sculthorpe,  Richard Mathers, Phil Veivers, Bennie Westwood and Danny McGuire. They will be joined by the Voice of Rugby League Eddie Hemmings who alongside Sky Sport's Fraser Dainton will be the MC's for the weekend.

European Tour Golfer Phil Archer, who was an inch from becoming the first golfer to shoot a sub 60 on the European Tour, will take on all comers at the “Beat the Pro” competition.

Sadly St Helens Legend Wilf Smith passed away on the 17th June.

His family kindly agreed for donations to go to The Steve Prescott Foundation.

Saints Historian Alex Service tells Wilf's incredible story.

Born in 1935, Wilf was a stalwart of his home-town club and was present at Langtree for the Players' Association luncheon a few weeks ago - as he always did - where he was in the company of his many friends and team-mates.

He was a stalwart of the St. Helens club - the ultimate clubman, in fact - and it is quite true to say that the game was in his blood. His father, Tommy, was a fine second-row forward with the old St. Helens Recs team between the wars and was part of the famous ‘Smith, Fildes and Mulvanney' back three!

Unfortunately, Tommy, who played more games for the Recs than anyone else [460] died when Wilf was in his very early childhood, but Wilf was naturally extremely proud of his father's achievements. The family rugby links have continued: it should also be noted that Wilf's son-in-law is Gary Connol

The stars were out at the weekend to support Emmerdale actor Michael Parr as he hosted a fund raiser for the Steve Prescott Foundation at the Virgin Money Lounge, King Street, Manchester. A really impressive £2500 was raised towards Mike’s fund for his Spectrum Everest Basecamp Challenge.  Mike is one of a party of 40 climbers who set off for Mount Everest on 13th October. The group will arrive in Kathmandu and then face a gruelling eleven day trek to Nepal Everest Base Camp and then continue to "Kala Pattar" to reach a finishing height of 5645 meters.

They will sleep overnight at Crater Camp which will host the World Record Rugby League game at 5780 metres before they start the descent to base camp.

Hull FC Fan Andy Johnston got in touch recently. He says:

"Just thought I'd email you a couple of pictures of my beautiful daughter Ava with a present bought for me for Christmas by my wife, a special present. Steve was my idol in a Hull FC shirt from growing up in the later days of the Boulevard to the KC Stadium and in rugby league in general. I will be making sure my daughter is taught about Steve, who he was and what an amazing person he was and what kind of amazing lasting memory he left the world of rugby league."

Thanks Andy for sharing the photos of Ava. Its really good to know the next generation will be aware of the legacy of Steve Prescott thanks to the fantastic support of the rugby league family

It is important that we never forget the great sacrifices made by those who fought in the Great War, in giving up their lives for our freedom today.
