2016 is a milestone year for the Steve Prescott Foundation (SPF) as we have reached a million pounds of donations to our nominated charities the Rugby League Benevolent Fund, The Christie and the SPF Special Causes Fund.

The latest epic challenge inspired by Steve Prescott MBE is the Everest Base Camp Challenge 2016 sponsored by the Manchester based Spectrum Group, a leading supplier of support services in the industrial sector. The challenge follows on from the fantastic success of the Spectrum Kilimanjaro Challenge of 2015 which raised over £150,000 for the SPF and saw the team ratified by the Guinness Book of World Records as taking part in the world’s highest altitude game of rugby league.

It was a day of celebration for Luke Bryan and his Mum Christine as representatives of the Steve Prescott Foundation and the Rugby League Benevolent Fund attended the formal opening of Luke’s new home in Haydock.

Thanks to a £80,000 donation from the Steve Prescott Foundation (SPF) through the Rugby League Benevolent Fund Luke has now moved into a specially adapted home in Haydock. The Rugby League Benevolent Fund, one of the charities supported by the SPF, helps players who have been affected by serious injury.

Luke says his new home will give him the independence he craves and a new lease of life.  The former rugby league player was paralysed from the neck down following a devastating injury in 1996 while playing for Haydock under 18s.

Staff from Haydock-based Handepay used rugby league’s showpiece Grand Final to smash their £10,000 charity target set in May 2016 – seven months ahead of schedule. The Grand Final-themed sponsored walk helped them take their fundraising grand total for The Steve Prescott Foundation to £13,000 in just five months.

23 Handepay staff walked the 18 miles from their office to Old Trafford on Saturday to raise £5,500 – the equivalent of more than £300 per mile – before enjoying a well-deserved seat to watch Wigan Warriors take the Super League title, with hospitality provided by Hotel Football.

Linzi Prescott sets off on the Spectrum Everest Base Camp Challenge this week and has the support of Dr Mark Saunders consultant clinical oncologist at The Christie. The challenge involves an eleven day trek to the Nepal Everest Base Camp then onwards to "Kala Pattar" to reach a finishing height of 5645 meters above sea level.

The Steve Prescott Foundation is really delighted to announce that the Horizon Defibrillator Award will be presented to one local community group at this year’s SolarKing Commercial Pride of St Helens Awards on Friday 11th November.

Local community groups are invited to apply for a defibrillator for their group and the winner will be presented with the award by Lizzie Jones. Lizzie is the wife of former Keighley Cougars and Wales International half back Danny Jones who tragically collapsed and died in May 2015 as a result of an undiagnosed heart condition.

Nine Tecmark staff are preparing for Manchester’s ‘Survival of the Fittest’ event next month in an attempt to raise further funds for the Steve Prescott Foundation.

Kate Madigan, Richard Bannister, Simon Mo, Sahida Aarndell, John Matthews, Theodore Watt, Rob Weatherhead, Mike Wainwright and Jordan Yates will tackle the 10km course that includes a number of obstacles designed to push competitors to their limits.

A team of 38 climbers have not only climbed Mt Kilimanjaro in 6 days instead of the more usual 9 days but have also played the World’s Highest game of rugby to raise funds for and awareness of the Steve Prescott Foundation (SPF). The climbing party included rugby league legend Adrian Morley, Lee Briers, Barrie McDermott, Chico Jackson, Neil Harmon, Mike Wainwright and Alan Hunte. BBC North West journalist Beccy Meehan and Angela Powers from Sky Sports also took part and have filmed the whole challenge which will be broadcast across their respective TV networks.

The Spectrum Kilimanjaro team set off this morning from Manchester airport in great spirits. They will travel via Istanbul and reach Tanzania early tomorrow morning. Their mission is to climb Mt Kilimanjaro and play a full game of rugby league and set a world record in the process.

The Steve Prescott Foundation are delighted to support the Burtonwood Beer Festival and raise funds for other great causes St Roccos and the community centre.

It will be a great weekend and we hope that there will be a few RL personalities partaking in a glass of two for real ale.

IT has built its reputation as a keen rugby pub and now The George will be hosting a week of 'red vee' nostalgia in aid of the Steve Prescott Foundation.

The town centre pub is offering visitors the chance of making a donation to the charity, by simply buying a drink.

Between Monday, October 13 and Saturday, 18 The George will donate ten per cent of its takings.

And the three events will mark 'Steve Prescott Week'.

Tuesday will see ‘Classic Match Night’ which will see two famous clashes being screened, including Saints’ 1984 Lancashire Cup final triumph over Wigan at Central Park, which was legendary centre Mal Meninga’s first trophy win with Saints. Entry will cost £1

On Thursday there will be a pool night between SPF and George teams. Representing the SPF will be ambassadors Paul Sculthorpe, Tommy Martyn, Steve Hampson along with Neil Prescott & Martin Blondel.

Meanwhile, the Saturday will see the pub host a special night out including music from a DJ with potentially some members of the Saints squad also present on the night.

“This is for people who maybe can’t afford to go to a Steve Prescott Foundation dinner, who can get in for as little as a pound,” says Alan Turner, 43 husband of landlady Michelle.

“Considering we are such a big rugby pub it seemed appropriate that it will be for the foundation,” added Alan, 43.

Martin Blondel, general manager of the Steve Prescott Foundation added: "When Steve was first diagnosed Alan and Michelle supported Steve and the Steve Prescott fund.

"I am sure regular supporters of the SPF will pop in and join the festivities. It promises to be a fantastic week."

Elated to say that the Prescott Family rightfully won the Family of the Year Award at last night's WISH FM Awards.

After the sad passing of Steve! They could have easily said that they have done enough to help others and nobody would have argued but they wanted to continue Steve's legacy.

To coincide with the Steve Prescott Man of Steel Awards the SPF Charity supporters Rhino RL have designed a special edition Size 5 Rugby Ball to commemorate the legend Steve Prescott MBE.
